I was doing just fine putting a night-time pullup on The Politician every night. It didn't bother me one bit that he didn't wake up to pee. Not one little bit.
But now he's starting to wake up to pee and it is driving Mr. Sasha and I ca-razy.
Most usually we'll wake up in the middle of the night and realize that he's standing by our bed. Who knows how long he's been there and it's kinda creepy. He wants someone to go to the bathroom with him and then take him back to bed and tuck him in. Sometimes I pretend I don't hear him and let Mr. Sasha deal with it all (Hi Mr. Sasha!).
I have told him every night for months about how he can do it on his own, not wake us up, etc. He's not listening.
I need a solution, and I need one now. What's a tired girl to do? Help?

Oh I am NOT looking forward to that! Caroline still wears a pull up at night -- sometimes wakes up dry, sometimes not. We've told her she can wake us up if she needs to go, but so far she hasn't.
Ben. A. Dryl.
No lie. Pediatrician recommended.
I'm having a girls' night. Can you get to Atlanta by 7?
CG- I'm about to try it. Srsly.
As for tonight, I'm logged in to the airline to try to get a flight... I need a girls night!
But, really, one of these days, we do need to meet! I don't suppose you are ever out this way, but there is a good chance I may make it your way sometime. Mr. Sasha loves to travel. I just love having drinks and don't care where I am.
K, Restaurant Wars is on RIGHT NOW. Fake a headache and go home.
Then get on a plane.
Locking the bedroom door worked for us. ;)
I have not words of wisdom.. hell I still have a 3 year old in a crib!!!
It was awesome to see you yesterday, you look awesome!!!
I just ran across your blog. I saw your picture and said "is that Sasha from JLN?"
I love it your blog and will be adding it to my list of daily reads.
Whoah wait just a minute you two love birds - CG and Sasha planning a girls night involving drinks and I'm not invited????? What kind of shit is this?
We put up a gate so that his only option was to go to the bathroom and then back to bed. Otherwise he got sidetracked and came to our room too. Obviously, our floorplan allows for this, but it has worked wonderfully. We had to graduate to a pressure mounted gate that locks that he still figured out, so now we have to use a zip tie to hold the gate shut!!! Crazy kid! Good luck!
Can you put a little potty by his bed? We also stop liquids about 1.5 horus before bedtime.
Evil Kate- you are totally invited- that goes without saying!
And thanks to everybody for the advice- I see lots of ideas to try!
I should have given some background info- P will be 5 in August and has been day trained since he was 3 1/2- just never night trained and our ped said not to worry about it until he was 6.
Gate, potty by the bed, and even benadryl sound like good options to try!
And Shannon, I totally keep my kids in cribs until after age 3- if they don't climb out, no sense in letting them loose!
We just potty trained my third and I actually never understood the whole day trained/night trained thing. I just assumed that once they were potty trained, they were done.
Not so much with #3. She's still in pull ups at night and still wants help going potty.
Let me know what works for you.
A friend's pediatrician recommended a product sold by One Step Ahead. She used it on her six-year-old and the child was potty trained at night within a couple days. It sounds a little weird, but it is a sensor you put in their underpants and a little bell goes off to wake them up when it senses moisture. I have had a few people tell me it really works! I plan on buying it for my daughter is she's not trained at night soon. Good luck!
