Well, we were supposed to be headed south today for our post-op visit to discuss scar care, but since poor WC woke up throwing up in her bed yesterday morning, we've rescheduled for next Tuesday.
I'm getting worried as the bandage wears off though. Click on the pic to make it bigger- see that red raised area on the top part of the wound? That doesn't look right to me.
I've emailed the nurse practitioner to get her opinion. I'm pretty much convinced that when WC was having her devil-possessed drug-induced fit after surgery, she messed up their work. They did internal dissolving stitches and Dermabond on the top layer- and I'm no expert, but what if her thrashing around messed up the part they did the Dermabond on?
I'm crestfallen.... Now I am thinking surgery #2 is definitely in our future and I was really hoping we were done.
What do you guys think? Any experience with post-surgery wounds?

What about using something like Mederma or vit. E oil on the scar as it heals?
Rachael, I agree- that's what I am hoping to hear back from the NP about.
Have you used Mederma? I got some for Mr. Sasha after his car wreck to use on his arm, but he never used it so I don't have experience with it. Does it work well?
It looks just like how my husbands appendectomy scar looked two weeks post-op. The doctor said it wasn't infected yet but prescribed a cream that made it look much much better.
Sasha, a friend of mine used Mederma on her 2 year old DD. 4 stitches at her eyebrow line from a fall. A few months later, you could barely see anything. I think she used the cream for 2-3 weeks.

We used Mederma on a scar on G's forehead & it's almost invisible now. You might want to check with her doctors to know when to start using it though. On the Sx site, I'd keep a close eye on it. It could just be a little irritated during the healing process, but it might be trying to get infected. Has her ped seen it?

I agree with all of the suggestions of Mederma. I have used it in the past and the stuff works wonders.
I have no wisdom on scar car, but I'm so sorry the plans had to be changed because she got sick. That just throws everything off mentally, doesn't it?

Hmmm, I think it definately needs a second look. Those folds and crinkles are normal for scar healing. But I can still see some residual hemangioma there too..

Julie, there is definitely some H left. They said they couldn't get it all at once- it was too wide for that. They said it would take 2 procedures to remove it completely.
But we were hoping that it might look "better enough" after one that we wouldn't do another surgery.
We shall see....
Oh, gosh, I cannot help and don't know a lick about that scar and how it should be healing. I know I would have emailed someone that can help and followed their directions. I hope a little cream can help with that swelling. Big hugs.
