Notes From School

On P's take-home sheet recently:

Our big angel fish, Angel, died during the night. She was too big to flush, so we had a funeral.

I could say so much about this...first off...couldn't the teacher just have "disposed" of the fish in whichever she needed to without even involving the children?! This is probably some of their first encounters with death...what a way to explain it..well kids...it was too big to flush...geez! And then...the teacher thought it was necessary to send home a letter about a dead fish?! I mean really....

Entertaining.

One of our fish died recently. Actually it committed suicide by jumping out of the tank.

Angry Toddler stated the following when I got home later that day, "Flippy died, and Daddy threw him in the trash". The fish wasn't to big, ugh daddy could have flushed him but he didn't. So I came home and the damn fish was still in the trash under our sink.

Angry Toddler already knew what death was.

I think it's pretty cool that they had a funeral and just dealt with it. After all, if the fish was suddenly gone, you know the kids would ask a hundred questions about it.

The brevity of the note is kind of funny, but I guess the teacher couldn't write an essay on 15 or so daily sheets.

That's terribly weird, I have to admit....since I use to be a teacher and all {I still am, but not in "practic"}. She prob. shouldn't have mentioned the "flushing in the toilet" thing. Let's not judge her though, I'm sure she was just trying to be sensitive with the children.

woops, the teacher spelled practice earlier w/out an "e". uh, oh
