In my opinion, Cars 2 is not much of a sequel. It is such a departure from the formula of the first movie that it's really a stand-alone. The first movie was slow-paced and sweet. Although there were some race scenes, I don't feel they were high-anxiety scenes. Both my kiddos can watch the first movie with little to no stress.
But the second one is totally different- it's very violent to me- there are "bad guys" and lots of good guy-bad guy stuff.
And it's confusing! WC, who is 5 1/2, really didn't understand it AT ALL. The idea of someone being "undercover" is really an advanced topic and she just couldn't follow the storyline. P, almost 8, actually asked me if we could leave in the middle of the movie because it was too stressful. I convinced him to stay, but as we left he said, "It was OK, but not at all like the first movie. We don't need to buy it."
Have you seen it? What was your opinion? Did your kids enjoy it?

I agree! I am VERY surprised that they were able to get away with a 'G' rating. Lots of violence, gun play, and bombs. Cars killing cars....not cool for the under 10 crowd, IMO. So different from the fun and truly family friendly first movie.
Agreed! I took my 5 1/2 year old son for date night. I could tell he was bored with it and on the way home he was asking a ton of questions because he just didn't GET a lot of it. So disappointing.
I am with you. I didn't like it too much. The graphics were GREAT, but I did not care for the violence. My 4 year old was restless, and I went home with motion sickness!
My 5 year old is the ultimate Cars fanatic. He saw the movie with his grandparents (so I can't give my own opinion), but he LOVED it. He said it was better than the original Cars, he wants to go back to see it in the theater with his dad & I, and he's already been asking daily when it comes out on DVD.
I am SOOOO thankful for your post about Cars 2. I was going to take RG and her friend. You saved me thirty bucks and I'm grateful! I'll wait until it's out on Netflix to preview it first.
